That is a real cool video you put up on the site.  I'm glad they called you about it instead of just deciding to throw it out.  I don't think they know what they lost when they lost you John.  Carmack is a brilliant man, and they have many talented individuals, but I realized long ago that losing you would cripple their efforts.  That is why they are no longer on top of the genre that they, and you, created.  Technical wizardry and graphics are important factors, but the new ID team doesn't seem to understand the vast importance of gameplay.  Doom was a well rounded game.  It was fast paced, rewarding, just plain fun.  I almost don't know how to explain it, but look at Doom 3.  What happened?  I could have created a better game because I know what makes a good game, and its not ALL graphics.  I am one of the few people that know that Doom was the best game in the history of the world.  F**k Modern warfare and BF2 and Halo 3.  They aint got $#!7 on Doom.  I hear you still play Doom online sometimes.  I would be honored to have you kick my ass in a few rounds some time, but that's up to you.  Anyway, thanks for that cool footage.  It kind of helps me to put some images to the people and games I have loved for so long.  There are fewer and fewer of us with each passing year who remember all the great classics like Keen and Wolf3d.  BTW, any Top 10 or Top 25 list of FPS games that claims "these are the best ever" that do not contain both Doom and Doom2 dont know wtf they are talking about.  It bugs me and I didn't even make the games.  I guess you can't fault the noobs too much.  Perhaps you cannot blame the ignorant for that which they don't know.  I do laugh though when I see that type of thing because I know that its just the same old story over and over.  In fact, the FPS genre is played out.  FPS games where what made me seek a career in game design, but now that I am on that path, I don't think I will make a FPS game.  After all, you didn't get to where you are in life by doing exactly what everyone else was doing, did you?  Noone else realizes that.  They have been riding YOUR wave since the beginning.  Here's to you bro.  I hope you have an exceptional future ahead of you.  Peace and long life, from another John (me :))

hear hear.  go to www.doomworld.com --plenty of people still acknowledge that doom is the best game of all time :D.  I just a made a post on here saying as much.  Doom had the sweetest combination of art, atmosphere and gameplay.  It's not so much the engine, but what you do with the engine that counts.  There are still great doom mods being made to this day.  You should really head over to doomworld.com and check it out.

Hey thanks, I definitely will.  I have kept up to date with some of the doom things going on these days.  I have played some skulltag and zdaemon, but I really like doomsday and the jDoom engine.  It seems to incorporate most of the best features of some of the others.  Recently downloaded a total conversion mod that was recommended to me by an acquaintance from #qeradiant on irc.telefragged.net called Deus Vult II.  Very cool mod if you haven't seen it yet.
