Same old shit=  linear dark corridors, metal walls, opening doors

Rage= open world, vehicle combat and post apocalyptic setting

I fail to see how Rage looks like "the same old shit."    The more I see and learn about it the cooler it seems.

Well, their games started as brown. Then slightly saturated brown and as the time went on, the color faded away and its now grayish brown.

So, old shit.

It'll be interesting to see how RAGE turns out, but from the looks of the combat portion, you're right in saying it's the same old stuff. There hasn't been much information released about it yet - but  I'm hoping it will at least take a steer in the right direction and be mostly vehicle based, as opposed to 'Well, you can sometimes drive this car, but for the most part you'll be shooting stupid enemies".

I must be one of the few people left that enjoys the fast paced classic style of gunning down lots of interestingly designed cannon fodder as opposed to the slow, plodding, take cover, look down the gun sights, stuff that everyone else seems to love these days.

  Did you guys hate Borderlands?

I do enjoy them, but only if they're good and try something different - I enjoyed the first Doom games, but after that, the game design and such wasn't interesting enough to keep playing.

Painkiller was spectacular.

Painkiller is a very good game (imo) but i actually prefer the Doom style of gameplay. Many people will think they're the same, but in fact they're quite different. For example Doom has some slight puzzles and exploration elements while Painkiller has none. Serious Sam, which is very similar to PK, has some small exploration elements, but its far from how it was implemented in Doom and Quake 1 (and DN3D and Q2 and similar games).

Today they don't make similar games. Or at least i don't know any (in which case, feel free to suggest if you know :-).

Really? As far as i can remember commander keen and wolfenstein were far from brown or colorless. In fact, they had a verry vivid pallette.

The brown tone is to give the atmosphere a murky feel and it succeeds quite well at doing so ihmo.
