Further news surrounding Doom 4, is that the game will not be entitled Doom 4, but instead, that will be in the subtitle. This is due to the fact that Doom 4 will not be a continuation of the Doom 3 storyline - which has a few of us feeling a little bewildered. Surely a continuation of the Doom 3 storyline would be a remake of Doom 2? Nothing yet is set in concrete, so no judgements can be passed yet.

Why did they decide to make this move? Part of the reason is that the fourth Doom game will not be a continuation of the storyline for Doom III, according to Willits. Doom III was basically a "reimagining" of the first Doom game's storyline (a la the revamped Battlestar Galactica). So willl the fourth Doom game be a continuation of, say, Doom II's Earth invasion? Willits wasn't giving up any story ideas yet.

I personally don't care what they call it; I'll be playing it for the first time in the next decade when it's only a dollar :P

"Doom3" in itself was a bit of a silly title as its supposed to mean "The third installment of the Doom series" and not a remake.  If it were a remake they would have called it "DOOM: Redux" or "DOOM: The iPod Generation"...

Well, whatever its called I'll most likely still buy it.  I'm not the biggest fan of Doom3 but I did get a kick out of it.  The chainsaw was good fun!  Quake4 wasnt too bad either...

And Quake II and IV should have been called New Game I and II, and Quake III should have been called Unreal Tournament: Minimalism Edition

Can't wait for id to disgrace the Doom series yet again when they release this steaming pile of junk.  Doom 3 erased every last ounce of faith I once had in the company.

@Rizimar:
I think "New Game" is reserved for a future game when they run out of simple one-word titles :-P.
