Recently, myself and a few other independent developers finished our big project Urban Brawl, an original  game based off the Doom 2 engine.  Urban Brawl is a throwback to Beat-em-up games of the early 90s (Streets of Rage, Final Fight), but presented as a FPS.  Featuring a fully narrated story told through Frank Miller/Sin City-esqu cutscenes, you must fight your way through a cel shaded, comic book world using baseball bats, pipes, knives and anything you find lying around to survive.  Urban Brawl is free to download and play, but also available for $9.99 which includes a boxed copy with special bonus features.

Action Doom 2: Urban Brawl

Also... if John Romero happens to send me an email at urbanbrawl@gmail.com with a mailing address... I'd send him a free copy.

So it's like a FPS Double Dragon?    It's a Doom 2 mod, or a stand-alone game?  I assume we'll need to use a Doom source port to run this in XP.  I don't know how to run a mod with vanilla Doom 2 in Dosbox.

Well anyway,.. I love retro game development.

From what I've played so far, it's pretty cool. I love the comic-book style, and the influences from Pulp Fiction, Sin City, and Max Payne are obvious.

Also, beating up the Village People (or their look-alikes) while an Elton John-looking guy was playing the piano was kinda funny :P

Forgot to mention, the game is entirely stand-alone.  Purchase or download the game and it comes with all the necessary files to run.  Just unzip the file to it's own directory (or install if you own the CD).

I killed you in the game, Scuba Steve :P

Also, in the office building, does one of the gargoyles out the window have a giant penis?

Alright. I beat it already. It was really short, but it's awesome. I love the easter eggs and little things scattered throughout the game.

There are about 5 unique endings to the game as well as several alternate paths.

I love this kind of stuff.    Old-school simplicity is often all you need for a good time.    I sometimes wish that developers would still make new games for the original Playstation.

Really? I knew there was at least one other path, but now I have even more reason to replay it! Though, I was probably going to anyways, since it really is pretty damn fun

Forgot to mention it, but i presented this game in a column i was writing about indie games in a greek magazine (i stopped writing about them this month because i'll be busy for a while moving to UK, etc - and also i might start writing a column about game development).

I think the visual style of ZDoom/Doom fits perfectly with the cartoony look of the game. Introducing any "true" 3D element or bilinear filtering will make it look worse.

You have the full game. On the disc are just addons, which adds nothing to the core game, just neat little extras.

In this case, you have to pay. I have given shitloads of money, because i want to have neat little extras. And Urban Brawl isn't really expensive.
