I don't usually throw caution to the wind, but something tells me this Wii console is going to be the winner in the console wars...

...just a gut feeling, mind you...

It's a goddamn rocking good machine _b

I don't know about winning the console war, as I think it's in a totally different class than PS3 and 360 and shouldn't be compared, but it is brilliant :)

I was about to pick one up today with Zelda:Twilight Princess, but alas they didn't have them in stock.

I've thought about all the consoles, and til now the PS3 was the ideal choice.  However, a few friends have the Wii and are excited about it. On top of that I haven't heard anything bad about it.  The XBox 360 is just an upgrade of the first XBox(though reasonably priced now), whilst the PS3 is priced in the realms of fantasy - £500.

Nintendo seem to be doing everything right:  Good looks, exciting new gameplay, excellent launch price(£180), a Zelda launch game - my hat is off to them.  I think if it had been in stock it would have been an impulse buy there and then, but I think I may now hold off for a while and get one in the summer.  By then the PS3 will have been released and thus all the players will have shown their cards...

But right now the Wii is the favourite to win.

I pretty much feel the same way, and I'm looking forward to the games that will come out for it; kind of like Nintendo's forcing a bit of creativity with game developers with the controller.  So far I like the variety of games to come out for DS, and I really hope a gauntlet-esque game comes out for Wii soon. :3
I think atm Resi4 is getting the most play-time, and Gradius III/Super Mario World for VC.

Btw, Battle Lode Runner for Turbografix 16 is a crappy game, but it can be really fun if you have five peoples playing. :P

Gave in and got a Wii with NiGHTS this evening after knocking off work.  I can kiss goodbye to Golden Axe Beast Rider...damn.  But still, the Wii has NiGHTS, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3 and some other games on the horizen...not to mention the old GameCube games I never got a chance to play.

...which is going straight back to the shop tommorow!  Word of warning to those thinking of buying the Wii - try it out before buying because the controller may frustrate and its not that much more powerful than a PS2!  I'm exchanging it for a PS3 and leaving it at that.  I've never had any problems with the PlayStation brand and should have stuck with the devil I know...

Still, I've given the Wii a shot and that can only be fair. The PS3 may cost more but then again it is a capable BluRay player as well as a Super PS2. When I got the PS2 it was mainly because it could do both games and DVD movies.  So while the Wii works out just fine for most(I'm happy for you) the PS3 is a more sensible choice for my situation.

Big thanks to my boss at work for agreeing to an exchange. ^_^

And I got a full refund for both the Wii and the NiGHTS game.  Major big thank yous to all the guys and girls where I work! ^_^

My closing comments on the Wii are these:  You are basically paying for a slightly enhanced(graphically) and slimlined GameCube with a different controller.  It really is a console that you should try before buying - do not fall into the same trap I have.  Thats not to say its not worth buying - the controller is actually a nice idea - but it may not be for everyone.

Apparently we are going to get a staff discount increase from 10% to 15% soon so I'm going to either hold off the PS3 until then...or just stick with PC gaming.  But for now I'm happy(and definitely more appreciative of) my PS2.

Peace to all. ^_^

LOL, in a completely shocking move I decided to re-buy my Wii that I took back. Basically, all me mates keep sending me loads of Metroid Prime youTube Videos and I have to say its fucking difficult to resist.  Well, apparently my department manager is going to have to do a bit of paperwork to send the machine back as "faulty" when there is nothing wrong with it and today(and just for Easter) my staff discount got raised from 10% to 20% - the Wii Sports bundle only costs £143!  I think the deciding factor here is that I can also download the SNES version of Super metroid onto the Wii as well.  3 Metroid prime and Super Metroid. Well, I must say I cant be any picker than that. Thankfully my department manager was 100% understanding of my situation and so all is resolved.

I think the slowdown in NiGHTS: Jurney of Dreams just put me off so much that I didnt really give it a chance to prove itself. So, the hit list is as follows...

Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echos
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Super Metroid
Twilight Princess

I have to say this has been the most difficult chapter in my gaming life.  The reason why I find the metroid games so essential is because of their world-structure: Its a game of trial'n'error and exploration.  I've been bitching about all FPS not following this for decades and when someone finally makes one with an adventure element I pass it up - surely that is madness?  Also, watching Metroid Prime 3 reminds me alot of The LawnMower Man: I've always hoped a game would come that would match it in visuals and give a more interactive control system than what has gone before.  The other two machines(PS3 and 360) are both extremely powerful consoles and still worthy of consideration, but the fact is most of the games can be bought for the PC - not even the Halo series is exclusive anymore.

Anyway, thankfully I can put this ugly episode behind me now and start enjoying the games again.
