The Japanese can ruin anything.

See, that's where I think your argument is flawed.  Nintendo has gotten the reputation of being a kiddie developer, and that's fine.  Most of their first party games ARE appropriate for all ages.  But man I couldn't put down Advance Wars, or Mario Kart DS.  and I know Animal Crossing is one of those love it or hate it titles, but I think it works well.  In fact I know way more adults who play it daily than children.

I bit on Nintendogs as well.  I had fun with it for a while too, but it ended up getting kind of old.

Sure, a lot of psp titles have mature themes that warrant them being played by mature gamers, but that doesn't make Nintendo's titles just for children.

I guess another reason I prefer DS over PSP right now is the fact that I can play most of my DS titles in short bursts of 10-15 minutes.  That's why I like Lumines so much too.  I can put it in, play a quick game, and be on about my way.

I'll agree that the titles like the maddens, the resident evils, and the graphically intensive console ports should go to the PSP.  I think that's why you're finding a lot of low DS scores - the machine just isn't powerful enough for those games.  I think Nintendo needs to just focus on making original, fun, quirky titles and leave the third party ports to other systems.

Word.  Mother, fucking, word dude.  Fuck that graphical shit.

As much as people seem to "love" mature shit, the "kiddie" stuff from Nintendo and Sega is always at the top of my must play list.  And Nintendo is always coming out with innovative stuff, they have always been.

Sony has always been known to recycle shit.  I saw this coming with the PSP before it was even well established, it got the PS2's sloppy seconds a few too many times.

Quote
However, this is kind of a problem for me as well.  I purchaed X-men legends 2 for my psp, one because it was cheap, and 2 because i liked the first game.  Sometimes the load times are just flat out unbearable.  It's like sony designed this awesome ass system with lots of potential, the most beautiful screen i've ever seen on a handheld, and the capability to reproduce beautiful graphics, but didn't design the system with a large enough cache to avoid consistent loading issues.

You know, thinking about it, that's my main gripe about the psp.  If these games didn't have such horrible loading times, i'd probably like more of them.

Sony was retarded for pulling that crap.  The PS2 already has horrible load times compared to all of it's competitors, Dreamcast included.

I did get around to finally using the PS2 for around 6 hours of use, and it's a really horrible machine.

I could never imagine owning one, let alone a PSP...after being spoiled by the awesome load times of Dreamcast, GameCube, and Saturn, I just can't see myself waiting 30 seconds to get to the God damn fucking main menu.  It's fucking deplorable.  I swear to God they are using a single speed (1x) DVD-ROM!

Sony should have did what Sega did with the Saturn to fix the PSP's drive speed issues - Give it a massive fucking buffer.  The PSP has 32MB of system RAM, the Saturn had 2.  The Saturn had a 32-bit CPU just for the CD-ROM drive, along with a massive 512K buffer, 25% the size of the system's RAM!

I can't believe I'm actually saying someone should take hardware design pages from the fucking Sega Saturn of all things, which sucked, but besides everything else the buffer design for the disc drive in the Saturn was king, and if the PSP were to use a co-processor and an 8 or 12MB buffer (Both of which would be cheap, as in three bucks), the PSP could have stood much more of a chance.

The PSP wasn't ahead of it's time.  It was just half-assed in a couple ways.

Hacks have finally got around to downgrading 2.6 all the way down to 1.5 so that you can run all the homebrew you can think of.
I can play Quake without running through major hoops... Sweet!

I'm done with the system.  I traded it in a week ago for 185 and change and jumped in line for the Wii.  I'm sick of waiting for stuff worth playing to come out.  This officially goes down as the worst video game purchase I've ever made.

Star Wars Lego is great along with Loco Roco, both released with the last month. There are tons of highly rated games. If it's not for you though, it's not for you. the DS has tons more sales as their simple games hit a wider audience.

Heehee...Shoulda waited in the bargain bins for it...How much do you think my 32X cost me?

HINT: The currency features Andrew Jackson and the World Trade Center.

Just think of it.  If we're lucky, we may get PSP's for next to nothing in two years!

I traded my DS in after I got a PSP because I never played the DS anyway.  The PSP is the greatest handheld I've ever owned.(right next to the GBA)  It's nice to have a PS2 in my pocket.  I've got about 20 games for it.   It's almost like a tiny laptop if only it had a tiny little flip open keyboard to use when I get on the net with it.  I'm one of those people that gets homesick alot and it makes me feel so much better when I'm away from home for a few weeks here and there.   Video, music, net access, and ps2 quality games all in one handheld?    It's really difficult for me to understand why people don't like it.

Loading is expected with any optical drive based system.
Yes,.. I'll agree that $50 is a lot for a handheld game,...  that's why I buy used.
I consider there to be a lot of fun games for the PSP.   Tenchu, Syphon Filter, GTA, Infected,  Burnout Legends, Field Commander, Daxter, Loco Roco, Capcom Classics, Tekken : Dark Ressurrection, Lego Star Wars 2, Miami Vice (it plays kinda' like RE4), Twisted Metal, MIdway Arcade Classics, Socom, Exit, Bounty Hounds, Monster Hunter,...... just to name a few plus there are some more cool ones coming out such as a true Metal Gear Solid game that bridges the gap between Snake Eater and the original Metal Gear.   But "great" is all a matter of personal tastes.

I'm sorry, but I can't expect loading when I pause a game.  Some loading is fine.  Excessive loading is tedious and makes me wish I never owned the system (which it accomplished).

I've never experienced loading from pausing a PSP game.

Can't say that I blame you.  The PSP is simply being dominated by the Nintendo DS...  DS wins by about a mile in my opinion.  Better games, better system.  Perhaps not graphics-wise, but at least you don't have to wait 5 minutes for a game to load.

Xmen Legends 2.  I enjoyed it between loading times.

Seriously, you go to pause the game and it actually has to load to compensate for the menu.  Takes about 15 seconds.  That, to me, is ridiculous.

Portable gaming, in the past, was always an alternative venture that generally was cheap.  No hardware over $100 sold well (i.e. TurboExpress, Sega Nomad).

Portable gaming was, and always will be, a "way to piss time away."  I'm not going to spend $300 so I can burn a few minutes away here and there.

This is why I have yet to upgraded from a lowly Neo Geo Pocket Color.  Let me see - it's cheap.  It has a great screen.  It's very small.  It plays games.  It has lots of good games.

Why would I dump $250 on a PSP?  I don't care if it can play MP3's and shit.  I can get a 40GB iPod for that much dough.  And I can carry both machines with me.

I don't understand the allure of portable gaming at all.  It's far too expensive now.

Yay I own PSP too! But... If u already updated the firmware (didnt read to see) you can always get a cheap battery, then download Pandora's battery. It somehow changes the battery, not to hold electric charge, but to downgrade your PSP from ANY firmware to version 1 or 1.5. Haven't had to try it-- I have a PSP with a burned out disk drive and v 1.5 firmware (like a first gen.) and my modernized one that I play UMDs on :P
