Hey guys, I can definitely confirm that I have left Midway - I've been gone for about 3 weeks and Rhaluka and I have been traveling around and having fun together (a sort of vacation without going to tropical destinations).

Midway says that development of Gauntlet hasn't been impacted by my departure and is scheduled to ship this fall. I can't say anything more about the situation and hope you all understand. :)

I'm currently looking at lots of exciting developments right now and it'll be a couple months before I can announce my next destination.

John,

I remember you mentioned it briefly, guess it caught me offguard and such. But reguardless of that, I know that whatever the reason was it was for the best and that you'll find something that fancies your creativity and will give us something that will both shock and/or awe us, as well as slay us faster than Melvin's dad slaying Melvin in your shortest Melvin comic. Not really, but you get us floored ;).

I hope you and Rhaluka are taking it in together, and are having fun together that's the key thing. :)

P.S: was gonna title this post "Just Got Lucky" but you don't need luck for a job, you have those computer hacking skillz (I just had to go off and spout something from that Napoleon Dynamite movie didn't I?).  :P

Good luck with everything John, and if you feel like it, you could take a bit of a hiatus over here in Australia. You could work your magic in the Australian scene, give it a bit of a kickstart... Oh, and have one wild honeymoon ;).

Oh well. Guess this means you can design a new exciting FPS for all of us, and are fast amounts of impulse money.

it's days like today i'm reminded that many more people read these forums than post on them.

best of luck with everything John, and glad to hear you're getting to spend sometime with Rhaluka. i wish you both the best as always.

i'm still looking forwards to gauntlet, and now i look forwards to the announcement of what you do next.

Best of luck in the future John. Maybe after the honeymoon you can concentrate on growing your hair long again until it reaches a level of sentience!

Good luck!
I don't know if you left or were "fired", but I do know that I'm someone who's about to turn 25 (next week, on the 22nd ), and a big part of my life was spent playing games in which you were involved (Commander Keen, Doom, ...), so all I can say is that I look forward to whatever you're involved next...

If it's true that Tom Hall also left Midway I hope you guys work together, you make a good team.
I would suggest you guys create a new company, but the gaming industry is in such state things probably wouldn't work out, this year in particular I've seen several companies I particulary enjoyed closing it's doors (Troika, Elixir, Ion Storm, ...).

If you have trouble finding a good job, you can always make a sequel to Hyperspace Delivery Boy!

I, for one, am happy to hear that Romero is no longer employed with Midway.  Lately, I am seeing nothing but franchise games from them.  Honestly, we need another Mortal Kombat about as bad as we need yet another version of Tekken.  MK:Deception did try some new things, but ... it was still MK.

I hope one of the "exciting developments" you're into includes the DS, or even a next-gen console.  If you're going back to the PC, then welcome home!

I feel a hint of sarcasm when reading the "not affected by the departure of Romero" line... Am I paranoid or something? =]

Gauntlet made my day since the old Speccy and C64 times, I would love to see a decent instalment of the game by the hands of Romero. Wonder how much were affected by this sittuation. Well, let's wait for the release to check it out.

Hope this "couple of months" don't take too long! let's see what JR has in his sleeves this time!
