Ok I recently was forced to put on windows 98 SE( win xp and win 2k would not let me update at all due to urhmm.......well you know those cds    ) And I decided to install Quake 1 and Quake 2 ( I know not made by the MAN ) and I updated Windows 98 with every single one available, turned on DMA and have the Digi cable and Audio Cable from both my DVD Rom and from my CD RW hooked into my SB Live platinum 5.1

So anyway, I install Quake and blah blah blah....it works fine ( I was getting like 270 FPS not even on OGL ) and The cd music would not play......I made sure it was turned on...but nothing.....no music......It certainly reads the music tracks when I use the Creative Playcentre and rips them into MP3 no problems and plays.

So then I decided to install Quake 2......same things......just wont play.

Anyone know what could be causing this ? Or why the music will not play during the game.....but plays on MP3 players ?

Thanks For Any Help !

If you have more than 1 cd-drive, you must put the cd in the drive whose letter comes first.

check you can actually play the CD, not just rip it. ripping CDs doesn't use the same stuff as playing them, it reads the CD and extracts the audio data digitally, it's not the same as sending the sound to the soundcard and playing it. you can rip CDs without a soundcard. if that doesn't work, check your CD volume isn't muted and stuff...

You should also check the quake options to see if CD music is turned up full.

A no-brainer I know, but sometimes the obvious is the thing that gets overlooked.

Thanks so much Robomop

It was the auxilery muted, I normaly used to run win xp, and it always worked fine on that OS.

So 98 is a little different for some settings I guess.

And I just love Creatives poor driver support,my damn live drive keeps getting corrupted to use the remote on it.

God I hate Creative...just I love their products heh.
